What We Do
Heritage management in Victoria began to take formal shape in the 1970s, with the establishment of the Victoria Heritage Council in 1974.
This council was pivotal in identifying and protecting cultural and historical assets.
The Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 further strengthened the management of Aboriginal cultural heritage, ensuring that Aboriginal communities are actively involved in preserving their cultural heritage.
Our Mission
Heritage advisors are professionals who specialize in the preservation, management, and promotion of cultural heritage. They provide expert advice on the conservation of historical sites, artifacts, and traditions, ensuring that these cultural assets are protected for future generations.
In relation to Aboriginal culture, heritage advisors work closely with communities to respect and maintain the deep spiritual and historical connections that Aboriginal people have with their land and heritage.
Their work includes conducting assessments, developing management plans, and facilitating community engagement to safeguard cultural heritage.
